Ingredients

  • 4 large ripe pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground star anise
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Мethod of preparation

Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced pears with lemon juice, white sugar, and ground star anise until the pears are evenly coated. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish. In another bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the diced butter, using your fingers or a pastry blender, mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the chopped walnuts. Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the pear mixture. Bake for about 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the pears are tender when pierced with a fork. Allow to cool slightly before serving to facilitate serving. This crisp is perfect on its own or served with a dollop of vanilla ice cream.
